Caring for Carers Ireland is a national organisation supporting Family Carers and those for whom they care. Our purpose is to recognise the invaluable role that Family Carers play in Irish society and to provide a resource where the Family Carer can find information on the practical, financial and emotional support that they need in their everyday life.
As a non- governmental organisation, Caring for Carers Ireland works in partnership with the Department of Health & Children, Department of Social & Family Affairs, Department of Community, Rural & Gaeltacht Affairs, Health Service Executive, Irish Red Cross Society and many other statutory and voluntary bodies. These ranges of services are provided within a framework of over one hundred Carers’ Groups nationwide.
Caring can be as rewarding as it is challenging. Carers can be found in all age groups and in all social situations. The reality is that any one of us can become a Carer at a moments notice. An accident or sudden illness can see us looking after a loved one, unprepared for all the challenges and issues that this involves.
Caring for Carers Ireland recognises that there are many thousands throughout the country who start every day wondering what new challenges they will face in their role as a Family Carer. We aim to support this selfless community by promoting the health, well-being and quality of life of all Family Carers and those for whom they care.
We achieve this by working in the areas of recognition, provision of information on benefits and entitlements, respite, training, research and advocacy to promote social inclusion.
