Department of Economic Promotion, Employment, Trade and Tourism of the Town Council of Santiago de Compostela

The Department for Economic Development, Employment, Trade and Tourism is the main driving force behind Santiago de Compostela’s economic life, in all its many aspects. Each department has its own goals, but they all work together to help the capital of Galicia achieve greater economic dynamism, which translates into a better quality of life for people living and working in the city.

The Economic Development Area is intended to create an innovative business and economic environment that is competitive and knowledge-based, enabling companies in Santiago de Compostela to compete successfully in the new global economy.

In the area of Commerce, the aim is to strengthen Compostela’s prime position as shopping capital of the Euro-region Galicia-Northern Portugal, promoting trade that is modern, innovative, dynamic and competitive.

In the area of Tourism, the challenge is to consolidate the position of Santiago de Compostela as a top international destination by promoting and developing attractive, targeted products and services, and developing excellence in all tourist attractions in the city.

These three objectives converge in the area of Employment, where the purpose is to make Santiago a point of reference for creating jobs, with a labour market focused on promoting equal opportunities for both women and men, eliminating obstacles and encouraging real equality in access to employment
